Junior Golf Program 2017

Youth Ages 8-16 Registration Starts May 1, 2017 - (two sessions offered) Sponsored by: Kendrick Municipal Golf Course Brian James, General Manager Sheridan Recreation District Staff Instructors:  Brian James and staff (If you are interested working with kids as a golf instructor, please contact Brian James or the Sheridan Recreation District.) This is a great opportunity for young people in the Sheridan area to learn how to play golf and/or increase their golf skills. This program is designed for young men and women between the ages of 8-16 to have fun building interest in this lifetime sport through skill development. Participants will learn rules, etiquette, and basic fundamentals of putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing techniques. There will be two, one week sessions offered this summer. Session One: 10 am – Noon Monday-Friday, June 12-16, 2017 Session Two: 10 am – Noon Monday-Friday, July 10-14, 2017 All sessions will include beginning levels of instruction. Participants will be grouped by age and ability. The beginning level session is for participants, who have little or no golfing experience, have never taken lessons or very few lessons, and/or who feel they want to review the basic golf skills. All sessions will be held at Kendrick Golf Course. All participants are encouraged to have their own set of golf clubs. We do have loaners at the course and the Sticks for Kids program to be checked out at the Sheridan Recreation District office in Thorne-Rider Park. Registration Fee: $50.00 Resident per participant for each session. $55.00 Non-Resident per participant for each session Fee includes: professional instruction, range balls, end of program skills challenge, and certificates. Sessions will be limited to the first 30 registered participants in each session.  Full payment must be received with the registration to be complete.

All intermediate and advanced players are invited to sign up for the Kendrick Municipal Golf Camp. Brain James will offering advanced skills and play for advanced juniors in this new program. We would encourage all players to complete our beginner class before registering in this advanced camp. Contact Brian at Kendrick Municipal Golf Course at 674-8148 or the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421 if interested in advanced instruction and play.

Sticks For Kids

Signed up for the Junior Golf Progam? Don’t have your own set of golf clubs? No worries, the Sheridan Recreation District has partnered with the Golf Course Builders Association of America to provide youth a free opportunity to use a nice set of junior golf clubs. These clubs are great for beginners. The goal of this grant is to introduce and teach youth the fundamentals of golf through chipping, putting, club stance, grip, etiquette, and basic rules. Golf clubs will be available to the public at the Thorne-Rider Park Recreation District office. All participants must fill out a usage form. Sheridan Recreation District programs have priority over individual use. All participants must have a parent or guardian fill out the usage form and provide a valid driver’s license to copy.
