Instructors Wanted
The Sheridan Recreation District is looking for instructors for a variety of classes to offer to the public.  If you have experience and or certification or are able to obtain certification we would be interested in hearing about what you would like to teach!  Some ideas may include (but are not limited to) painting, aerobics, water aerobics, core, yoga, Pilates, drawing.  Call Aimee TIce at 674-6421 if this sounds appealing!

Kendrick Pool
The opening day for 2008 is May 31st.  Check out the 2008 Recreational Swim Schedule for information about afternoon and evening swim, fees, renting the pool, water fitness classes, lap swimming, swim lessons, and more.

Sheridan Recreation District / YMCA Tennis
The Sheridan Recreation District and the YMCA have again joined forces to offer the Sheridan area a solid, high quality tennis program.  So break out your tennis racquet and plan on hitting the court this summer!  Lessons are held at the YMCA.  From beginner to the more advanced player, there is a class to help you improve your game.  See you on the court!  Note: If you do not own a tennis racquet, one may be provided for you.

Registration will take place from April 28th through May 28th at the YMCA front desk.

LESSONS WILL BEGIN ON MONDAY, JUNE 2ND AND RUN THROUGH JULY 2ND.  THERE WILL BE NO TENNIS INSTRUCTION ON JULY 4TH.  INSTRUCTOR TO BE DETERMINED.  ALL TENNIS WILL BE PLAYED AT THE YMCA COURTS.  Advanced Youth will play at the Sheridan High School courts.

Youth Instruction

BEGINNER: Ages 9-12. M,W,F 8-9 AM
NEW program this year!  Quickstart helps kids learn proper strokes.  Singles and doubles match play.  Play begins with USTA approved foam ball and playing matches starts much sooner than with a regular tennis ball.  Meet at ‘Y’ courts.  T-Shirt included.  Fee is $35.

INTERMEDIATES: M,W,F 9-10:30AM
Learn proper strokes, drills, match play.  Meet at ‘Y’ courts.  Culminating tournament at the end.  Fee is $45.
 
ADVANCED: T,Th 5:30-7PM & Sat. 10AM
This is for high school or those going into high school.  Work with proper strokes, drills, match play with players and adults.  Players will be traveling to two tournaments.  Meet at SHS tennis courts.  Fee is $45.

Adult Instruction
BEGINNER: M, W 5:30-7PM
Meet at the ‘Y’ courts.  Fee is $40.
 
INTERMEDIATES and ADVANCED: M, W 7-8:30PM                
Meet at the ‘Y’ courts.  Fee is $40.

J.D. Mullinax Memorial Tennis Tournament
The 2008 J.D. Mullinax Memorial Tennis Tournament will take place August 9th & 10th.  This fun filled weekend is for high school and adult players competing in women's doubles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles.  Depending on the number of participants, matches will be played Saturday and Sunday at the newly surfaced Thorne Rider Park Tennis Courts.  This is sure to be the event of the tennis season!!!  For more information, contact the Sheridan Recreation District, 674-6421 or Lorna Brooks, 673-4903.  Cost is $15.00 per person/per event.

Cardio Room
Spring into fitness and get into shape for upcoming summer swimsuit season.  We have a cardio room with fitness balls, treadmill, stair-stepper, recumbent bike, and two ellipticals.  Located in the Highland Park Sheridan Recreation District Facility.  Hours are 9am to 7pm.  FREE for the month of April!!  $1 per visit starting in May.  No membership fees, no waiting list, no commitment!!  Come check us out!

Senior Health and Wellness Activities 
The Sheridan Recreation District, YMCA, Senior Center, and Wyoming Rehab are coming together in a good-health partnership to bring you Senior Health and Wellness Activities May 28-30, 2008.  We strive to help make exercise fun by increasing awareness of the benefits of regular exercise programs through a variety of fun programs for all fitness levels; also by improving self care in daily life and socialization.  Come join us this year!!  The first 50 who sign-up will receive a FREE T-SHIRT!  FREE LUNCH is provided everyday for all participants!!!  Don’t miss out on the fun and friendship!  Kick-off begins May 28th at 9:00 am at the Senior Center.  Any questions please contact the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421.

Kayak Class
Learn to kayak or improve your skills over the winter with our kayaking class at the Junior High Pool. Times are 7-9pm, dates TBA. Classes will be once a week starting in October and running through the spring. They are designed for the beginner to intermediate kayaker to help you gear-up for the summer rivers!  Call SRD for more information 674-6421.

Kayak Trips
Want to explore the waves on Shoshone River in Cody, WY or the play park in Casper?  Anyone interested in going on one of these trips should contact Aimee.  If we get enough interest we can schedule dates.  Note: You must have either been through one of SRD’s kayak classes or be able to show abilities to instructor.

Paintball - Summer 2008
The Sheridan Recreation District will offer a drop-in paintball league for students during the months of June, July and August.  This league will be a pick up league and will have no set teams.  We will divide into teams each day of play. 

WHERE: The Sheridan Recreation Paintball course off Fort Road.
WHEN: 5-6-7 grade         
8-9-10 grade

9:00-10:30   Tuesday
10:30-12:00   Tuesday
9:00-11:00   Wednesday
FEE: $5.00/ per day session   (If you have your own paint and equipment.)
$10.00/ per day session  (All equipment provided, including up to 500 paint balls.)

Equipment Needed:    We have equipment, but you may bring your own.  Marker guns will be limited to semi-auto, single trigger only with the exception of Open Day sessions.  The only requirement on that day is no automatics. 

The Sheridan Recreation District will also open the paintball course to special events such as, but not limited to,  Family or class reunions, birthdays, conferences etc.  Each event will be limited to a maximum of 1-1/2 hours. 

Fee:  $15.00/person  The Sheridan Recreation District will provide all equipment needed, including up to 500 paint balls.

Aerobic Fitness Classes
Once again, the Sheridan Recreation District is offering an aerobic fitness class designed to fit your own personal needs and let you work at your own pace.  The important aspect of this program is that the exercises are designed to be easy on the joints while still providing a quality exercise experience.  You may take the classes two or three times per week and new sessions are offered monthly.  So, make plans to feel better this year with the Sheridan Recreation District Aerobics.
  • DAYS:  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday  (October 1 - December 13, 2007)
  • TIME:  5:30 - 6:30 PM
  • PLACE:  Coffeen Elementary School
  • FEE:  $10 for 2 days/week or $15 for 3 days/week per month.  Sign up at the aerobics class or at the Sheridan Recreation District Office.

Sledding Day 2007
Join us for a fun-filled sledding day at Arrowhead Bowl on Thursday, December 20th at 10am and return at 4pm.  Fee is $10 and includes lunch (bring snacks).  Ages 7-13.  Bring your sleds, skiis, and snowboards and be prepared to have some fun!  Sign up by Wed. December 19 at the Sheridan Recreation District or call 674-6421.

Winter Ski Trips
The Sheridan Recreation District will be taking a winter ski trip to Red Lodge Mountain in Montana!  Cost includes: transportation, lodging for 2 nights and 1 lift ticket for one day of skiing.  Meals and ski/snowboard rentals not including in the cost.

WHEN: Februay 16-18 (Monday is a Holiday!)
AGES: 5th - 8th grade
COST: TBA depends on group size

Register at the SRD office.  We will leave Saturday around 10am and return on Monday afternoon. Grab your skis or snowboard and let’s hit the mountain on one of the best ski slopes in the area!!

Sledding Hill
The Recreation District has a sledding hill for kids in Thorne-Rider Park.  It is located across Goose Creek pedestrian bridge below Madia Field.  Parking is available by the Tennis Courts and also in the Dan Madia Field Parking area.  Try out your new snowboards, skis, and sleds before you head up the mountain.

Project Adventure Training
The Sheridan Junior High School now has a new Challenge Course!  Classes are now being offered to local companies, organizations, groups, etc. who would like to participate in the Technical Skills Intensive (TSI) workshop.  You will participate in a series of activities that will take you from cooperative games, problem-solving initiatives, and take part in high challenge elements such as the Pamper Pole, the Zip Wire, and the Flying Squirrel.  Engage in an adventure sequence that includes individual growth as a member of a group!  It is time for you to experience new activities as well as new methodologies and techniques and build team unity.  Learn good strategies for building, working, connecting, and communicating with your team!  For more info call Aimee at the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421.

Instructional Boxing
Enroll your son/daughter in our new instructional boxing class.  Learn the fundamentals for heavy bag, speed bags, and footwork.  A great workout to promote cardio fitness, strength, and hand / eye coordination. Classes are a month long.  Fee is $20.00.  Contact the Sheridan Recreation

Introduction to Skateboarding
Learn the fundamentals of skateboarding with emphasis on safety.  Find out the differences between pushing, stoping, carving, kick turns, basic tricks, and the safest way to fall and not get injured. Starting Januray 15tj at the Old Highland Park/SRD facility. Bring your board, helmets, and safety pads. (mandatory)
