Instructors Wanted
The Sheridan Recreation District is looking for instructors for a variety of classes to offer to the public.  If you have experience and or certification or are able to obtain certification we would be interested in hearing about what you would like to teach!  Some ideas may include (but are not limited to) painting, aerobics, water aerobics, core, yoga, Pilates, drawing.  Call 674-6421 if this sounds appealing!

Kendrick Pool
The opening day for the 2010 season will be Friday, June 4th from 12:30pm to 5:00pm. This will be a 50 cent swim day.  Check out the 2010 Recreational Swim Schedule for information about afternoon and evening swim, fees, renting the pool, water fitness classes, lap swimming, swim lessons, and more.

Sheridan Swim Team
If you love to swim and can swim at least one length of the pool, you’re ready to join BOSS, (Barracudas of Sheridan Swimming)! If you would like to join, we will be having tryouts for the competitive and pre-competitive team:
 
When:  April 13-15 at 6:00p.m. (Just stop by one of these days)

Where:  Jr. High Pool (back of the Early Building , last door on the west)

How:  Show up with your swim suit, a towel, and goggles (if you have them). You’ll swim for the coach and she will determine where you fit on the team!

Grab Your Mountain Bike and Let's Ride!
The Sheridan Recreation Department is taking youth 11-15 on a mountain bike trip in the Bighorns. Bring your bike, lunch (that fits in your pack), water, and your helmet and let’s ride.  We will leave from the Recreation offices at 9:00am and return in the afternoon.  Fee for this trip will be $10 per person.  Space is limited, so sign up today.  Register by June 19th.  You will not be able to go on the trip without showing your helmet before leaving Wednesday morning.

Sheridan Recreation District Tennis
The Sheridan Recreation District is offering the Sheridan area a solid, high quality tennis program.  So break out your tennis racquet and plan on hitting the court this summer! Lessons are held at the Sheridan High School tennis courts.  From beginner to the more advanced player, there is a class to help you improve your game.  See you on the court!

Note: If you don’t own a tennis racquet, one may be provided for you.

Registration will run April 26th through May 28th at the Sheridan Rec. Office.  Lessons begin Monday, June 7th and run though July 9th.  ALL TENNIS LESSONS ARE HELD AT SHERIDAN HIGH SCHOOL COURTS.

Youth Instruction

BEGINNER: Ages 9-12. M,W,F 8:00-9:00am
Quickstart helps kids learn proper strokes.  Single and doubles match play.  Play begins with USTA approved foam ball and playing matches starts much sooner than with a regular tennis ball.  Meet at Sheridan High School courts.  T-Shirt included.  Fee is $35.

INTERMEDIATES TO ADVANCED INTERMEDIATES: M,W,F 9:00-10:30am
Learn proper strokes, drills, match play.  Culminating tournament at the end.  Fee is $45.

Adult Instruction
BEGINNER:
M, W 5:30-7:00PM. Meet at the Sheridan High School courts. Fee is $40.

INTERMEDIATES AND ADVANCED:
M, W, 7-8:30PM  Meet at the Sheridan High School courts. Fee is $40.

J.D. Mullinax Memorial Tennis Tournament
The 2010 J.D. Mullinax Memorial Tennis Tournament will take place August 7th and 8th. This fun filled weekend is for high school and adult players competing in women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles.  Depending on the number of participants, matches will be played Saturday and Sunday at the Thorne Rider Park Tennis Courts.  This is sure to be the event of the tennis season!!  For more information, contact the Sheridan Recreation District, 674-6421 or Lorna Brooks at 673-4903. Cost is $20 per person for the first event, and $5 more for a second event.

Cardio Room
Stay in shape all year with our Cardio Equipment Room.  We have a cardio room with fitness balls, treadmill, stair-stepper, recumbent bike, and two elliptical machines.  Located in the Highland Park Sheridan Recreation District Facility.  Hours are 8:30 am to 8:00 pm.  $1 per visit.  No membership fee, no waiting list, no commitment!!  We do require anyone under the age of 12 to be accompanied by an adult.

Senior Health and Wellness Activities 
The Sheridan Recreation District, YMCA, Senior Center, and Wyoming Rehab are coming together in a good-health partnership to bring you Senior Health and Wellness Activities May 28-30, 2008.  We strive to help make exercise fun by increasing awareness of the benefits of regular exercise programs through a variety of fun programs for all fitness levels; also by improving self care in daily life and socialization.  Come join us this year!!  The first 50 who sign-up will receive a FREE T-SHIRT!  FREE LUNCH is provided everyday for all participants!!!  Don’t miss out on the fun and friendship!  Kick-off begins May 28th at 9:00 am at the Senior Center.  Any questions please contact the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421.

Kayak Trip
Join the Sheridan Recreation District on a kayak trip to the Stillwater near Columbus, Montana. Kayak Instructor J.D. Adsit is taking a minimum of three participants on a one-day kayak trip.  The trip is scheduled for Saturday, June 5.

JD is planning a warm-up trip to the lake the week of May 31st to practice and refresh those that need it.  Cost of the trip is $60.  Limit of 6 participants, unless you have your own Kayak.  If you have more questions, contact the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421.

Paintball - Spring League 2010

REGISTRATION:  March 8th - April 9th
WHERE: Sheridan Recreation District Office - 8am to 5pm, Monday - Friday
FORMAT: Center Flag Pull - 3 Matches a day (best 2 out of 3 each match)

5 MAN TEAMS - Boys/Girls
Jr. High League - Grade 6-8
High School League - Grades 9-12
SEASON: Four week league play with a Double Elimination Tournament at the end of the season.
TEAM FEES: $40.00/PLAYER or $200.00/TEAM
The fee includes equipment (if needed) and air. Teams can either purchase paint from the Recreation District or bring their own.
MANAGERS MEETING: April 5th from 5:30 - 6:30 pm at the Old Highland School.
All teams must be represented at this meeting.
SEASON STARTS: April 12th (weather permitting)

Aerobic Fitness Classes
Lose those Holiday pounds with the Sheridan Recreation District Aerobics classes. Once again, the Sheridan Recreation District is offering an aerobic fitness class designed to fit your own personal needs and let you work at your own pace.The important aspect of this program is that the exercises are designed to be easy on the joints while still providing a quality exercise experience.You may take the classes two or three times per week and new sessions are offered monthly.

Yoga
Start 2010 off with piece of mind, piece of soul and a healthy outlook. The Sheridan Recreation District will be offering yoga at Coffeen Elementary on Tuesday evenings starting January 5th.  Help your body become more flexible, stronger, and tone your muscles, while your mind becomes calmer and stress free.  You will leave the class feeling less stressed than when you started.

Christmas Break Sledding Day
Join us for a fun-filled sledding day at Arrowhead Bowl on Thursday, December 22, 2009 at 10:00am and return at 4:00pm.  Fee is $10 and includes lunch (bring snacks).  Ages 8-13.  Bring your sleds,skis, and snowboards and be prepared to have some fun!  Sign up by Friday December 18, 2009 at the Sheridan Recreation District.  For more information call 674-6421.

Spring Break Red Lodge Ski Trip
The Sheridan Recreation District will be hosting a ski trip to one of the best ski slopes in the area – Red Lodge Mountain!

WHEN: March 30-31
AGES: 5-8th grade
COST: TBA (depends on group size)


Cost includes: transportation, lodging for 1 night and 1 lift ticket for all day skiing.  Meals and ski/snowboard
rentals not included in cost.

Register at the SRD office by March 15th, 2010.  We will leave Tuesday at 9am and return on Wednesday evening.  Hurry to sign up today, slots are limited!  Call Chad at the Sheridan Recreation District for more information 674-6421.

Sledding Hill
The Recreation District has a sledding hill for kids in Thorne-Rider Park.  It is located across Goose Creek pedestrian bridge below Madia Field.  Parking is available by the Tennis Courts and also in the Dan Madia Field Parking area.  Try out your new snowboards, skis, and sleds before you head up the mountain.

Project Adventure Training
The Sheridan Junior High School now has a new Challenge Course!  Classes are now being offered to local companies, organizations, groups, etc. who would like to participate in the Technical Skills Intensive (TSI) workshop.  You will participate in a series of activities that will take you from cooperative games, problem-solving activities, and take part in a high challenge elements such as the Pamper Pole, the Zip Wire, and the Flying Squirrel.  Engage in an adventure sequence that includes individual growth and group bonding! Instructional Boxing
Enroll your son/daughter in our new instructional boxing class.  Learn the fundamentals for heavy bag, speed bags, and footwork.  A great workout to promote cardio fitness, strength, and hand / eye coordination. Classes are a month long.  Fee is $20.00.  Contact the Sheridan Recreation

Sheridan Community Skate Park
The Community Sponsors, City of Sheridan and Sheridan Recreation District are proud to offer the Sheridan Community Skate Park located in West Thorne-Rider Park (near Dana Avenue and West 12th Street).  The facility is lighted for evening use, however we encourage all users to follow local laws and curfews.  All Skate Park users are required to wear helmets and pads.  Please take ownership and pride of the Skate Park as this facility was built for the youth of Sheridan County.  Contact the Recreation Office at 674-6421 for further details or questions.

Learn to Fly Fish with Roger Miller

Are you interested in learning how to Fly Fish but can never find the time?  Learn the proper techniques while having a great time!  Here’s your chance to learn to fly fish from your local professional.  Roger Miller will be instructing an introductory fly fishing class to persons interested in learning the basics of Fly Fishing.  Roger has beena professional guide and fly shop owner for four years and has fly fished for 15 years.  Roger has a vast knowledge of skills and techniques to help you learn quickly.

The class will include general beginner fly fishing techniques, the three main fly fishing presentations, six casting skills, the differences of still water and moving water fishing, basic insects and insect life cycles and fly selection along with many stories, tips, and a video to help you become a beginner to intermediate fly fisher.  Stop by your local Fly Shop and pick up your gear or bring what you have to get started with many of the skills and techniques of fly fishing.  Feel free to bring along a new fisherman (son or daughter) to make it a family bonding event.

Disc Golf in Sheridan
Come on out to the NEW Disc golf course, at Sheltered Acres Park that is at the end of Emerson Street. There will be an organizational meeting for everyone interested in playing Disc Golf this upcoming summer. Leagues could be formed. The course will be at the Sheltered Acres Park and times will run in the evening hours.  The Recreation District has discs available for the public.  There will be a $10.00 deposit for the use and you must bring back all discs or pay to replace the discs.  For more information, contact the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421.

Scuba Introduction & Training Classes
Scuba Classes will run through out the summer months at the Jr. High Pool.  There will be a Scuba Training class that will be set up the Junior High Pool on June 9th-16th from 4:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. These classes will certify you to do open water scuba any where in the world.
