Instructors Wanted
The Sheridan Recreation District is looking for instructors for a variety of classes to offer to the public.  If you have experience and or certification or are able to obtain certification we would be interested in hearing about what you would like to teach!  Some ideas may include (but are not limited to) painting, aerobics, water aerobics, core, yoga, Pilates, drawing.  Call 674-6421 if this sounds appealing!

Kendrick Pool
The opening day for the 2010 season will be Friday, June 4th from 12:30pm to 5:00pm. This will be a 50 cent swim day.  Check out the 2010 Recreational Swim Schedule for information about afternoon and evening swim, fees, renting the pool, water fitness classes, lap swimming, swim lessons, and more.

USA Swim Team
The Sheridan Swim Team is a competitive swim team program sanctioned by USA Swimming for youth who can swim one length of the pool. You may join at any time.

Practice: Monday thru Friday at 6:00 pm at the Jr. High Pool.

2011 First Serve Tennis Clinic
Get your rackets ready for the First Serve Tennis Clinic this summer.  Come join the Sheridan Recreation District and instructor Haley King on May 21st at the Sheridan High School tennis courts.  This is a great opportunity to learn new
skills as well as refresh on the ones you all ready know.  There will be two sections offered for the clinic.  Please look at the information below to see what clinic to attend.  The Sheridan Recreation District Staff will be on hand to register individuals for the Summer Tennis Program as well as any questions you may have.  For more information about the clinic please feel free to contact Nick Dore at 674-6421.

Session 1: Begins at 9:00 am and is open to ages 7 - 12.

Sheridan Recreation District Tennis

Come join the Sheridan Recreation District and instructor Haley King this summer for a learning experience you won’t forget.  This tennis program is sure to have you playing at the best of your ability by the time you’re done.  So pick up your racquet and let’s swing into the summer.  There’ll be multiple skill levels offered, so don’t worry because there’s something for everyone.  Looking forward to seeing you on the court!
Note: If you do not own a tennis racquet, one will be provided for you through the Sheridan Recreation District.  Just let the Sheridan Recreation District staff know at registration that you’ll need a racquet.
Instructor: Haley King
Registration: Will open for all levels on May 21st.  Registration will be held at the Sheridan Recreation District offices in Thorne Rider Park.
Lessons Start: Begin on Monday, June 13th and end on Wednesday, July 13th.


Youth Instruction

Beginner: Open to ages 9-12
Days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
Time: 8:00-9:00 am
Where: Sheridan High School Tennis Courts
Cost: $35.00
The quickstart program helps kids learn the proper strokes, Individuals will be playing in single and double matches. All play begin with USTA approved foam ball, and matches start much sooner than with a regular tennis ball. T-shirt included.

Intermediate: Open to ages 13-16
Days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Time: 9:00-10:30 am
Where: Sheridan High School Tennis Courts
Cost: $45.00
Instruction in the intermediate level will learn proper strokes, drills, and match play there will also be a culminating tournament at the end of the program.

J.D. Mullinax Memorial Tennis Tournament
The 2011 J. D. Mullinax Tennis Tournament will take place on August 5th, 6th, and 7th.  Plan your weekend accordingly because you’re not going to want to miss out on this opportunity for high school and adult players to compete in various divisions such as:
Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.  Prizes will be awarded to first and second place in each division.  This year we’ll have the option for you to order a 2011 J. D. Mullinax Memorial Tennis Tournament t-shirt.  For more information contact Nick Dore at the Sheridan Recreation District 674-6421.

Cardio Room
Stay in shape all year with our Cardio Equipment Room.  We have a cardio room with fitness balls, treadmill, stair-stepper, recumbent bike, and two elliptical machines.  Located in the Woodland Park Sheridan Recreation District Community Center.  Hours are Monday-Thursday from 9:00am - 7:00pm and Friday from 9:00am - 3:00pm.  $1 per visit.  No membership fee, no waiting list, no commitment!!  We do require anyone under the age of 12 to be accompanied by an adult.

Senior Health and Wellness Activities 
The Sheridan Recreation District, YMCA, Senior Center, and Wyoming Rehab are coming together in a good-health partnership to bring you Senior Health and Wellness Activities May 28-30, 2008.  We strive to help make exercise fun by increasing awareness of the benefits of regular exercise programs through a variety of fun programs for all fitness levels; also by improving self care in daily life and socialization.  Come join us this year!!  The first 50 who sign-up will receive a FREE T-SHIRT!  FREE LUNCH is provided everyday for all participants!!!  Don’t miss out on the fun and friendship!  Kick-off begins May 28th at 9:00 am at the Senior Center.  Any questions please contact the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421.

Kayak Class
Have you ever wanted to experience the rush of white water kayaking?  Here is your opportunity to get started in that direction.  This class is open to all levels of experience. Beginners will be taught basic paddle strokes and how to eskimo roll.  Intermediates will be taught how to improve their form and basic moves on how to maneuver in certainsituations.

Classes will be taught by JD Adsit in the Jr. High School pool on Saturdays from 9am-11am.  The Rec Department will provide all necessary equipment.  The first session will begin on October 30 and end on December 11.  We will have NO CLASS on November 27 due to Thanksgiving. Each six week session is $60 if you pre-register before, and $75 if you register after.  Due to the equipment we have, a minimum height of 5’2” is required to fully participate in all activities.  If you have more questions, contact the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421.

Paintball - Spring League 2010

REGISTRATION:  March 8th - April 9th
WHERE: Sheridan Recreation District Office - 8am to 5pm, Monday - Friday
FORMAT: Center Flag Pull - 3 Matches a day (best 2 out of 3 each match)

5 MAN TEAMS - Boys/Girls
Jr. High League - Grade 6-8
High School League - Grades 9-12
SEASON: Four week league play with a Double Elimination Tournament at the end of the season.
TEAM FEES: $40.00/PLAYER or $200.00/TEAM
The fee includes equipment (if needed) and air. Teams can either purchase paint from the Recreation District or bring their own.
MANAGERS MEETING: April 5th from 5:30 - 6:30 pm at the Old Highland School.
All teams must be represented at this meeting.
SEASON STARTS: April 12th (weather permitting)

Aerobic Fitness Classes
Let’s get ready to get in shape over the cold months.  This fitness class is built to fit your own personal needs and let you work at your own pace.  The types of exercises you’ll be working on are designed to be easy on the joints while still providing a quality program.  So grab a friend and make some plans to get fit with the Sheridan RecreationDistrict and Cindy Garriot.
  • DAYS:  Tuesday and Thursday (Some dates may be canceled due to school activities).
  • TIME:  5:30 - 6:30 PM
  • PLACE:  Coffeen Elementary School
  • FEE:  $10 for one day of class per week
               $15 for two days of class per week
  • Registration will be ongoing and be taken at the aerobics class.

Yoga
Are you ready to take your mind, body, and soul to a whole another level?  The class will focus on helping the body become more flexible, stronger, and helps your mind become calmer and stress free.  You’ll leave the class feeling less stressed then when you came in.  Please come dressed appropriately.

Christmas Break Sledding Day
We’re headed up the mountain for a fun filled day of sledding at Arrowhead Bowl.  Be sure to grab your sleds, skis and snowboards.  A warm lunch will be provided, but be sure to bring something to snack on just in case you get hungry.  This program is open to ages 8-13.  We’ll leave from and return to the Sheridan Recreation District office.  This trip is weather dependent.
Registration: Monday, November 28th - Friday, December 16th
When: December 21st
Time: 10:00 AM- 4:00 PM (drop off and pick up will be at the SRD office in Thorne-Rider Park)
Where: Arrowhead Bowl
Cost: $10.00 (minimum of 8 must sign up)

Meadowlark Ski Trip
Get your snowboard and skis ready for the trip to Meadowlark Ski Resort in the Big Horns.  Meadowlark Ski Resort offers 300 acres of ski and snowboard area, and 14 differnet runs.  Cost of the program will include transportation and lift ticket.  Participants will have to bring their own lunch, and pay for ski and snowboard rental if needed.  All full day rentals are $20.  We’ll leave the Sheridan Recreation District office PROMPTLY at 8:15 am.

Spring Break Red Lodge Ski Trip
Get your gear ready for this year’s trip to Red Lodge Ski Resort.  Red Lodge Ski Resort offers 65 groomed trails, 30 acres of advanced chute skiing, 60 acres of tree skiing, and its longest run offering 2.5 miles of freshly groomed snow just waiting for you to carve through.

Registration:
OPENS January 1st, CLOSES March 4th
WHEN: We will leave March 16 and return March 17th in the evening.
AGES: 5th - 8th grade
COST: Varies according to size of group.

Cost includes: Transportation, lodging for one night and one all day lift ticket. Meals and ski/snowboard rentals not included in cost. Sledding Hill
The Recreation District has a sledding hill for kids in Thorne-Rider Park.  It is located across Goose Creek pedestrian bridge below Madia Field.  Parking is available by the Tennis Courts and also in the Dan Madia Field Parking area.  Try out your new snowboards, skis, and sleds before you head up the mountain.

Project Adventure Training
The Sheridan Junior High School now has a new Challenge Course!  Classes are now being offered to local companies, organizations, groups, etc. who would like to participate in the Technical Skills Intensive (TSI) workshop.  You will participate in a series of activities that will take you from cooperative games, problem-solving activities, and take part in a high challenge elements such as the Pamper Pole, the Zip Wire, and the Flying Squirrel.  Engage in an adventure sequence that includes individual growth and group bonding! Instructional Boxing
Enroll your son/daughter in our new instructional boxing class.  Learn the fundamentals for heavy bag, speed bags, and footwork.  A great workout to promote cardio fitness, strength, and hand / eye coordination. Classes are a month long.  Fee is $20.00.  Contact the Sheridan Recreation

Sheridan Community Skate Park
The Community Sponsors, City of Sheridan and Sheridan Recreation District are proud to offer the Sheridan Community Skate Park located in West Thorne-Rider Park (near Dana Avenue and West 12th Street).  The facility is lighted for evening use, however we encourage all users to follow local laws and curfews.  All Skate Park users are required to wear helmets and pads.  Please take ownership and pride of the Skate Park as this facility was built for the youth of Sheridan County.  Contact the Recreation Office at 674-6421 for further details or questions.

Learn to Fly Fish with Roger Miller

Are you interested in learning how to Fly Fish but can never find the time?  Learn the proper techniques while having a great time!  Here’s your chance to learn to fly fish from your local professional.  Roger Miller will be instructing an introductory fly fishing class to persons interested in learning the basics of Fly Fishing.  Roger has beena professional guide and fly shop owner for five years and has fly fished for 16 years.  Roger has a vast knowledge of skills and techniques to help you learn quickly.

The class will include general beginner fly fishing techniques, the three main fly fishing presentations, six casting skills, the differences of still water and moving water fishing, basic insects and insect life cycles and fly selection along with many stories, tips, and a video to help you become a beginner to intermediate fly fisher.  Stop by your local Fly Shop and pick up your gear or bring what you have to get started with many of the skills and techniques of fly fishing.  Feel free to bring along a new fisherman (son or daughter) to make it a family bonding event.
  • DATES: May 4, 11, 18, 25, 2011 four (4) class meetings

  • LOCATION: OWP, School (Classroom and Gymnasium)
  • AGES: Anyone who can handle a Fly Rod (10 and older recommended)
  • FEE: $35.00 per person
  • CLASS LIMITED: Sorry only twelve (12) persons total so hurry to register.
  • Equipment needed: Fly rod, reel, line, and leader for casting lessons.
  • Suggested books: The Orvis Guide to Beginning Fly Fishing, The Curtis Creek Manifesto and Dave Whitlock’s Guide to Aquatic Trout Foods.

Disc Golf in Sheridan
The Sheridan Recreation District will be having a Disc Golf League get together for any individuals that are interested in learning and playing the game.  The Wednesday Night Play will run from Mid-September until the snow begins to fly.  The course is in Sheltered Acres Park.
