The Sheridan Recreation District tries to keep the registration fees low to give all youth the opportunity to participate.  If a participant cannot afford to pay the entry fee that individual's fee is waived.  If you or your business is interested in becoming a youth program sponsor and need more information don't hesitate to call the Sheridan Recreation District at 674 -6421.

Webb Wright Baseball 2008
The summer of 2008 is fast approaching and once again it is time to get ready for BASEBALL.  This program is designed to develop fundamental skills such as catching, throwing, fielding, hitting, and running the bases.  The goal of the Sheridan Recreation. District is to provide a fun, safe, and enjoyable experience that will be remembered  for a lifetime.

2008 Sponsors include Connie's Glass, Kiwanis Club of Sheridan, Ziegler Construction, Bradford Brinton Memorial, Fletcher Construction, Entech Inc., Rockwell Inc., Elks, Wyoming Electric, and Holiday Inn.

REGISTRATION:  April 7-18, a $5.00 late registration fee will be charged.

LEAGUES & FEES (Sheridan Recreation District provides uniforms):

  • Pee Wee - All current 7/8 year olds, born: May 1, 1999 - April 30, 2001. $20.00 fee
  • Intermediate - All current 9/10 year olds, born: May 1, 1997 - April 30, 1999. $25.00 fee
  • Minor League - All current 11/12 year olds, born: May 1, 1995 - April 30, 1997. $30.00 fee
DRAFT INFORMATION: All Pee Wee, and Intermediate players will play on a team of the school they are currently attending.   If a school team is full we reserve the right to place the student on another team.  All Minor League players will be drafted on teams by coaches and the Sheridan Recreation District representative.  All 11 and 12 year olds will be drafted. 

REGISTER EARLY:  We have a maximum limit of 13 players per team!!!!!

This competition is free of charge to all kids.  State competition will be held in Casper in early June for local qualifiers.

Babe Ruth Baseball
The Sheridan Recreation District no longer offers a baseball program for 13-15 year old kids.  For more information about Babe Ruth Baseball visit www.sheridanbaseball.com or contact Dave Fisher at 673-5026 or Sean O’Dell at 672-7222 or 751-5901 (mobile).  Age cutoff for Babe Ruth is May 1, 1992 through April 30, 1995.

2008 T-Ball - Slow Pitch Girls League (Ages 7-9)
The T-ball league continues to grow as girls wish to learn the fundamentals of fielding ground balls and pop flies, throwing correctly, running the bases, and testing their strength and skill by hitting the softball from coaches pitching or off a tee.  All teams are formed based on the school the child attends and the Sheridan Recreation District.

All area young ladies are encouraged to participate in this fast paced league.  This league is a step up from T-ball, where the fundamentals and skills learned, are put to the test with a higher level of play. Games are played at 6th Street Field # 2.  Teams will be formed based on the school the child attends and the Sheridan Recreation District.

    NYSCA Coaches Certification Clinic
    It is mandatory for all volunteer coaches involved in the T-ball, Colts, and Ponies softball programs to attend the NYSCA certification clinic held at the Sheridan Recreation District.  It enables each coach to obtain liability insurance coverage and promote new ideas and coaching techniques.  Two clinic dates are available: May 5th at 6:00 pm and/or May 20 at 6:00 pm.  If you are interested in coaching, please contact the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421.

    2008 Little Sluggers Baseball Program
    The "Little Sluggers" program, offered to all boys and girls ages 5 & 6, teaches the basic fundamentals of baseball such as catching, throwing, fielding, hitting and knowledge of positions. The goal of this program is to provide instruction in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
    • REGISTRATION:  April 28th - May 16th
    • START DATE:  June 9th 
    • CLASS TIME:  9:00 - 10:00 am
    • DAYS:  Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday.  CLASS LIMIT OF 35 PER DAY.

    • FEE:  $15.00 (Includes a t-shirt)
    • EQUIPMENT:  Glove and Cap (The Sheridan Recreation District can provide gloves if needed.)

    Let's Go Fishing 2008
    The Sheridan Recreation District, and The Wyoming Game and Fish Dept. O.R.E.O. (Outdoor Recreation and Educational Opportunity) program , are sponsoring three youth fishing days this summer.  This program will be offered to girls and boys between the ages of 9 - 13.  Sorry, but we are limited to only 15 kids per outing , so sign up early.
    WHEN: Tuesday, June 10th,  9:00 am - 4:00 pm
    Tuesday, July 8th,  9:00 am - 4:00 pm
    Tuesday, Aug. 5th,  9:00 am - 4:00 pm
    WHERE: Wherever hungry fish lurk....
    MEET: Sheridan Recreation Office at Thorne-Rider Park
    FEE: $5 each session.
    REGISTRATION DATE:  Anytime from now until filled.
    EQUIPMENT NEEDED: A small backpack or duffel bag with extra clothes (socks, shirt, shorts, and a sack lunch and beverage).  Also if you have your own fishing equipment, please bring that as well.  The Recreation District will furnish fishing equipment and backpacksfor kids that don't have their own.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: We will leave at 9:00 AM on fishing days in front of the Sheridan Recreation Office. Transportation will be provided to and from the fishing site.  Parents need to be at the Recreation Office by 4:00 PM to pick up their children.

    Little Guy Football
    Fall is football season and what better way to spend those cool fall evenings than playing football in one of the Sheridan Recreation Leagues.  We offer flag football for the 1st to 4th grade athlete and tackle football for the 5th and 6th grader.  All tackle football players will need a sports physical before first practice.  Sign up in early August and enjoy Fall Football.

    FEE SCHEDULE

  • Flag Football  Grades 1-2  $15.00
  • Flag Football  Grades 3-4  $20.00
  • Tackle Football Grades 5-6  $35.00

  • A $5.00 LATE FEE WILL BE CHARGED.

    TEAM SELECTION PROCESS

    1. All 5/6 grade tackle players will be drafted.
    2. All 1-4 grade players will play on school teams unless limited numbers force the Rec. District to move some players to other teams.
    3. If enough players sign up in one school to field two teams, then the teams will be divided up equally.
    4. Late sign ups will not necessarily be placed on their school team.  They will be placed where needed. 

    NYSCA CERTIFICATION
    All adults interested in coaching football are required to attend a NYSCA certification clinic.  It is required that at least one coach from each team complete the certification program. 

    COACHES NEEDED
    Volunteer coaches are needed to help run our football program.  If you would like to coach in any of our leagues please contact the Sheridan Rec. District.  All Coaches will have to sign off on a background check form.

    JULY 30th - JULY 2ndFootball skills technique camp, run by Head SHS Coach Don Julian and Staff.   SHS practice field.  $10.00 fee
    AUGUST 4th - 8th 8:00-5:00 - Registration for all tackle and flag football players (A $5.00 late fee will be charged.)
    AUGUST 6th 5:30-7:00 - NYSCA certification clinic.  At least one coach per team needs to attend.  (This clinic is for all coaches currently not certified).
    AUGUST 11th 6:00-8:00 - Youth coaches clinic with SHS football staff at the SHS practice field.  This clinic is for tackle coaches.
    AUGUST 12th 6:00-8:00 - 5th & 6th Grade coaches meeting at the Rec. Office.  Equipment handout following the meeting.
    AUGUST 13th 6:00-7:30 - 5th & 6th Grade player clinic at SHS practice field.  Player draft at Sheridan Rec. Office follows.
    AUGUST 14th FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE FOR ALL TACKLE FOOTBALL TEAMS.
    AUGUST 16th 9:00-12:00 - Football gear checkout for all tackle teams.  Coaches must sign up for a time to bring in their team.

    Attention Girls and Guys!!  Come join in and support the Little Guy Football players this year!  All boys and girls 1st - 5th grade are welcome and encouraged to come out for cheerleading!!     Sheridan Junior High Intramurals
    The Sheridan Junior High Intramural program is getting ready to start for the 2007-2008 school year.  And this year 5th graders are welcome to participate!  Intramurals runs after school Mondays-Thursdays from 3:30-5pm in the gymnasium. We provide opportunities for students to experience a variety of physical activites that will constribute to an active lifestyle and enhance their leisure time. Every student is given equal opportunity to participate regardless of physical ability! The following is the season for the intramural program:

    Boys Basketball: October 16- November 15
    Swimming: November 19- December 13

    City Wide Basketball
    The Sheridan Recreation District and the YMCA have formed a partnership that has resulted in a completely redesigned youth basketball program.  It is our hope that this partnership will result in a better more unified program throughout our service area.

    We have three goals we hope to accomplish during the upcoming season.
    1. Teach the kids about the fundamentals of basketball!
    2. Have fun!
    3. Get them all back and playing next year!

    To accomplish these goals we need your (parents) help.  We need volunteer coaches and officials.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact either the Sheridan Recreation District or the YMCA.

    Thorne-Rider Park 2008 BMX Bike Racing Season
    Calling all BMX racing participants and spectators!  The Sheridan Recreation District is gearing up for another exciting BMX bike race season.  There will be six races and participants will be given various prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes.  Points will be accumulated throughout the year and some lucky winner will receive the grand prize. Races will be held Wednesday evenings, with registration at 5:30 p.m. and race time at 6:00 p.m.  Participants may pre-register early at the Sheridan Recreation District office or at the track on race day.  All races will be held at Thorne-Rider Park BMX track. For more information contact the Recreation District office at 674-6421.  Registration will begin on Monday, May 19th at the Recreation District office in Thorne-Rider Park.

    Disc Golf
    Come on out to the golf course, the Frisbee golf course, at Sheridan High School that is.  There will be an organizational meeting for everyone interested in playing Frisbee golf this fall.  Leagues will be formed.  The course will be at the Sheridan High School and times will run in the evening hours.  The meeting will be on Monday, August 27 at 6:00 p.m.at the Highland Park/Sheridan Recreation District facility.     Sheridan Area Youth Ages 8-16

    INSTRUCTORS:
    Douglas Moore – Certified Golf Teaching Professional
    Jeff Poulsen – Former SHS Head Coach
    Pamela Moore – Assistant Golf Teacher

    A great opportunity for young people in the Sheridan area to learn how to play golf and/or increase their golf skills.  This program is designed for young men and women between the ages of 8 and 16 to have fun building interest in this lifetime sport through skill development.  Participants will learn the basic and intermediate fundamentals of putting, chipping, and full swing techniques.  There will be two one week sessions offered this summer.

    SESSION ONE:   10:00 am - 12:00 pm  M-F  6/16 - 6/20
    SESSION TWO:  10:00 am - 12:00 pm  M-F  7/14 – 7/18

    Both sessions include beginning and intermediate levels of instruction.  Participants will be grouped by both age and ability.

    Beginning Level - The beginning level is for participants who have little or no golfing experience, have never taken lessons or very few lessons, and/or who feel they want to review the basic golf skills.

    Intermediate Level -  The intermediate level is for participants who have limited golf experience, have participated in our junior golf program a number of times before, and/or who feel they are ready to develop and apply basic golf skills.

    Both sessions will be held at Kendrick Golf Course.  All participants are encouraged to have their own set of clubs.

    Registration Fee:  $40.00 per participant per session

    Fee includes: professional instruction, range balls, participation T-Shirt, end of program skills challenge, and awards.

    Both sessions will be limited to the first 30 registered participants.  Full payment must be received with the registration form for registration to be complete.  Register at the Sheridan Recreation District Offices.
