Message from the Director:
Fall in Northeast Wyoming is
one of the most beautiful times of the year. The changing colors of the
seasons are also reflected in the change in recreation programs offered
by the Sheridan Recreation District. We appreciate your patronage and
look forward to seeing you throughout the year. We are excited to offer
some new and exciting programs this fall and winter as well as offering
traditional recreational activities.
This fall we once again
currently offer the Little Guy Tackle and Flag Football Program for all
1st-6th graders. Sign up were taken July 25 – August 5th. We also offer
Little Guy Football cheerleading for grades 1st-6th. This successful
program has been in existence since 1977 and seems to grow each fall
season. This year we will have 470 football players and cheerleaders
participating in LGF. Games are held Tuesday-Thursday in Thorne-Rider
Park at Maida Field, starting at 5:30 pm and finish around 8:00 pm. We
invite the public, FREE of charge to come and watch tomorrow’s stars
and visits our concession stand. We could not operate any of our
programs without sponsors. The Sheridan Business Community continues a
strong partnership with the Sheridan Recreation District that enables
us to offer affordable programs for all Sheridan County Youths.
We
also offer many adult sports activities. If you are interested in
volleyball, basketball or flag football make sure you contact us at
674-6421, or stop by the Recreation Office located in Thorne-Rider
Park. The office is open 8am-5pm Monday-Fridays. Some new recreation
programs everyone should try are Disc golf and ultimate frisbee. If
interested in any sports program please contact us, form a team, and as
Jackie Moon says in Semi Pro; “let’s get tropical”.
The Sheridan
Recreation District is supported by School District No. 2 and the City
of Sheridan. The Sheridan Recreation District could not function
without the support of School District No. 2, the City of Sheridan and
the community.
Please be patient when registering for programs
at front desk at the Recreation office located in Thorne-Rider Park. We
are installing a new software program/registration, facility
reservation and team scheduler. Registration may take a little longer
than usual, as we will need to enter all your data for the first time
on the software. In the future, this will allow us to be more efficient
and effective delivering you better information and recreation
services. We also accept most major credit cards and debit cards.
We
are still utilizing the Old Woodland Park Facility on South Coffeen as
our Recreation Center. Contact Elizabeth Murphy at 675-2004 if you need
a space for anything from a birthday party to a dance class. We also
have a cardio room and gym available for $1.00 per visit so there is no
excuse when the weather turns cold to find a place to work out. Please
call to see the current schedule and availability of class’s that are
offered.
If you have any questions, ideas for new programs or would like to
offer comments
about current activities or facilities, please call or e-mail me.
