Fresh Air Fridays Day Hikes 2023

These day trips are a great opportunity for youth to explore the Bighorn Mountains with experienced outdoor professionals. Transportation is provided; participants must bring a lunch, snacks, water, sunscreen, bug spray, and activity appropriate clothing. June 23 - Steamboat Point & Tongue River Canyon June 30 - Black Mountain Fire Lookout and Shell Falls July 7 - Cedar Creek Canyon and Copper Creek July 21 - Paradise Falls and Cutler Trails July 28 - Porcupine Falls and Bucking Mule Falls Fee: $40 per trip or $180 for all five. Fee includes transportation and qualified supervision. Ages: 8-14 (12 participants per session) Time: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Registration: Sign up online or in person at the Sheridan Recreation District at 1579 Thorne-Rider Park or call 307-674-6421 between April 1st until filled. Supplies needed: back pack, water bottle, weather appropriate change of clothes, rain coat, sun screen, bug repellent, extra snacks, hiking boots or good shoes. Camera is optional. Outdoor Adventure Camps 2023

This collaborative camp between the Sheridan Recreation District, Bighorn Mountain Guides, and Antelope Butte is sure to provide your child with three days of outdoor adventure fun! Rock-climbing will be in the morning, with survival skills and science education in the afternoon. Ages: 8-10 and 11-14 (10 participants per session) Session 1: June 19-21 (ages 8-10) Session 2: June 26-28 (ages 11-14) Session 3: July 17-19 (ages 8-10) Session 4: July 24-26 (ages 11-14) Fee: $235.00 per session Time: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm 7:30 am: Drop off at Sheridan Recreation District Office 7:40 am: Drive to Road 10 Climbing Area, meet Bighorn Mountain Guides 9:00 am - Noon: Rock climb with Bighorn Mountains guides at Road 10 Climbing Area 12:15 - 1:15 pm: Lunch at Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area 1:15 - 3:00 pm: Backcountry Survival – each day will have a new and unique focus. Participants will learn about Leave No Trace, how to build fishing rods in the backcountry, how to portage across a body of water, water purification, basic first aid, and much more! Participants will apply their new strategies by doing a treasure hunt, constructing a flotation device that will support their body weight, building a fire for S’mores and “wilderness hot chocolate” and much more! 4:00 pm: Arrive at Sheridan Recreation District office Registration: Sign up online or in person at the Sheridan Recreation District at 1579 Thorne-Rider Park or call 307- 674-6421.
